Looking better than I thought. I went with stainless steel screws . Actually quite handy for adjusting. Gotta rip the end piece on a table saw... Old post is 11/16" out of plumb.
Only 132 more pickets to go...

The funner PNW dads just grabbed a leaf blower instead of spending what seems like months now preparing to picket something with a neighbor.

Normal me thinks it looks great.
OCD me wishes the small board would be in the center...

But that would still require a ripped piece on the right for the crooked post

Yes, but sometimes sacrifices must be made to get closer to visual perfection...
There’s a reason I don’t build fences...

I’m all for visual OCD when it comes to a lot of things. Certain things definitely bother me more than the average person. But man, you’ve taken it to another level

I like the way you capped it; I’ve never considered doing that before, and it looks awesome.

Thanks. There are many easier ways to do this apparently but what's nice is that you're not worried about the bottom of the pickets lining up; you just butt it to the cap and you're done.

Don't worry I'm sweating the details for the lengths you can see from the street.

When he was asking about placement, I considered suggesting starting in the middle and working out to the sides, but that seemed like more work than the two options he proposed combined so I kept my mouth shut. But I think it would look good.

Probably helps reduce rot too, that engrain will really soak up the water.

I f you can do 80% of the job for 50% of the cost of doing 100% of the job, then it’s good enough for government work.

Looks good! The skinny end board will look goofy the first 4 times you look at it and then you'll never notice again. And about 1% of other people will pick it out. I like the black too.

That’s actually what I’ll be doing for the rest of the fence. The mat h works out such that there would be like 11 ripped pieces less than 1-1/4 ” wide, so instead I’ll do 22 ripped pieces at ~2-3/4" wide.
